Additional Costs

Apart from chartering the boat, there are also a few additional costs to consider like; skipper fees, paying the crew (chef, hostess, etc.), boat cleaning, fuel, etc. There’s also a boat docking fee which tends to be about $110 per night, and the marinas tend to be normally full around the summer as well. Also keep in mind that, if you are a boat owner, there is a tourist tax depending on the length of stay and length of the ship. If you’re in the charter, tourist tax normally costs 7kn per day for persons older than 18, and for persons between 12 and 18 years of age, tax is reduced by 50%, while for disabled persons and one accompanying person it’s reduced by 70%. However, children under 12 do not pay tourist tax.

Requirements for bareboat charter

You can either rent out a boat with a qualified skipper or porter around the islands or fo those who are determined to improve the sailing skills, and you can take a course at one of the local sailing schools. If this is your choice, then you should be aware that by law, all charter companies in the country require you to hold at least one of these sailing certificates: The Certificate of Competency for a Skipper B or C category (for operating vessels up to 30 tones gross weight for personal needs, including a charter, within the territorial waters of the Republic of Croatia for Category B, that is for business purposes regardless of the maritime zone for Category C) or the Certificate of Competency for a Yacht-Master. It is a Croatia requirement that you must also have successfully finished a GMDSS-VHF radio course. This is something that can be completed in a single day at certified centres.
