Sardinia Sailing Route – Italy Sailing Itinerary

This is a 7-day sailing trip starting from Portisco, Sardinia, meant for people who love exploring and have an adventurous spirit. Route includes Italian Sardinia, La Maddalena National Park and French Corsica.  The sailing route starts and ends on Saturday. When you find your yacht, you may want to choose a bareboat or skippered yacht charter, or even luxury yachts charter, to follow the route.

Please note that all restaurants and activities listed are only suggestions and are not included in the charter price. The trip can be changed according to your wishes and current weather, meaning stops can be added or removed.

We can arrange a transfer from Olbia International Airport to the marina for you. The transfer is usually not included in the yacht charter price in Italy.

Sailing holiday in clear waters of Sardinia and Corsica

Sardinia is an autonomous Italian region and after Sicily, the largest Mediterranean island. It is situated in heart of Medditeran, north of Sicily and south of the French island of Corsica. It has a long history and tradition cherished nowadays through many Sardinian festivals. Furthermore Sardinian are very proud of their still in use Sardinian language which is spoken by more than a million Sardinians.
Although firstly known a an island of a crystal clear sea water and beautiful white sand beaches, Sardinia offers variety of landscapes. It is a also a hilly and mountainous destination with nice climbing and hiking areas.

With around 1.200 miles of coastline is a must see sailing destination. Some of the most attractive sailing areas in Sardinia are:
North East: Sardinian yachting paradise of Costa Smeralda
South West: Costa Verde with a plenty of sandy beaches and stunning cliffs
Island of San Pietro (La Conca cliffs, fishing town Carloforte)

Itinerary

Day 1
Portisco (Olbia area)

Day 1. Portisco, embarcation day

Start your sailing vacation in Portisco, small port village situated between Costa Smeralda’s popular towns of Porto Rotondo and Porto Cervo. Portisco offers beautiful white sand beaches, nice restaurants and shops. Marina di Portisco is about 30 minutes drive from Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport, and around 13 kilometres from the city of Olbia.

Day 2
Porto Cervo

Day 2. Portisco – Porto Cervo

Situated in the North of Sardinia, this port is a synonym of luxury and exclusiveness. Although it is a very small village (only 421 permanent residents), it has everything that a luxurious port needs. From bars and restaurants to shops and grocery stores and expensive cars driving around, there is also an exclusive yacht club called Costa Smeralda.

Costa Smeralda has its own residence and the port is distinguished amongst richer sailors, but there are boats available for everyone – so anyone can experience and savor the delicacy of Sardinia. It is a wonderful port to start your journey around the Sardinian coast, however, you could also explore the Southern shores of Corsica.

Day 3
La Maddalena National Park

Day 3. Porto Cervo – La Maddalena

La Maddalena National park is a natural pearl of Medditerran, covering over 20.000 hectares of sea and land area. Since 1994. it is protected as a national park with the untouchable natural landscape: small islands, islets, divine bays, white sand beaches and impressive rock formations.
It is a natural habitat of endemic flora that grows only in this part of Mediterranean. Also, it is a land of sea species that are in danger of disappearing, like noble pen shell Pinna Nobilis and Molluscs Patella ferruginea.
La Maddalena National park is a sailing paradise with 180 kilometers long coastline. It needs an experienced skipper to navigate since the winds can get quite strong during the high season. If you wish to avoid large boat concentration try to avoid first half of August.

Bonifacio, Corsica

Day 4. La Maddalena – Bonifacio

If the weather permits, do not miss a chance to sail to French water and visit splendid Bonifacio, a city at the south peak of Corsica island. Sailing on a boat along the coast of the town gives you a spectacular view at 70 meters high limestone cliffs and the city’s fortress.

Visit The Fortress of the Standard and learn about the city’s history
Clime the incredible stairs of King of Aragon, which rise from the sea and bring you to the city. It is not suitable for young children.
Soak up the sun at the beach of Petit Sperone.

Day 5
Caprera Island

Day 5. Bonifacio – Caprera Island

Some tourists call the archipelago of La Maddalena the European Caribbean. Therefore, when you see the beautiful beaches and natural scenery that the island of Caprera offers, you would certainly agree. The island of Caprera was once the home of the Italian unifier Giuseppe Garibaldi where he lived the last 25 years of his life. This is a small village known for its great hospitality.

For a breathtaking view on the La Maddalena archipelago take a short hike to Monte Tejalone
Enjoy sunbathing on beaches Cala Coticcio Beach, Cala Napoletana, Spiaggia del relitto, Cala Serena

Day 6
Porto Rotondo

Day 6. Caprera Island – Porto Rotondo

Small village of Porto Rotondo is a well-known jet-set destination and with Porto Cervo is considered the most luxurious location in Sardinia. In addition to numerous villas, luxurious hotels and private accommodation, it has a very well equipped port with 800 berths.
The village was built by Venetian patricians Luigi and Nicolò Donà dalle Rose as their „getaway“ destination. Nowadays, it has approximately 1,000 inhabitants, but because of the high popularity during the summer, the population goes up to 30,000.
