Itinerary
Day 1. Portisco, embarcation day
Start your sailing vacation in Portisco, small port village situated between Costa Smeralda’s popular towns of Porto Rotondo and Porto Cervo. Portisco offers beautiful white sand beaches, nice restaurants and shops. Marina di Portisco is about 30 minutes drive from Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport, and around 13 kilometres from the city of Olbia.
Day 2. Portisco – Porto Cervo
Situated in the North of Sardinia, this port is a synonym of luxury and exclusiveness. Although it is a very small village (only 421 permanent residents), it has everything that a luxurious port needs. From bars and restaurants to shops and grocery stores and expensive cars driving around, there is also an exclusive yacht club called Costa Smeralda.
Costa Smeralda has its own residence and the port is distinguished amongst richer sailors, but there are boats available for everyone – so anyone can experience and savor the delicacy of Sardinia. It is a wonderful port to start your journey around the Sardinian coast, however, you could also explore the Southern shores of Corsica.
Day 3. Porto Cervo – La Maddalena
La Maddalena National park is a natural pearl of Medditerran, covering over 20.000 hectares of sea and land area. Since 1994. it is protected as a national park with the untouchable natural landscape: small islands, islets, divine bays, white sand beaches and impressive rock formations.
It is a natural habitat of endemic flora that grows only in this part of Mediterranean. Also, it is a land of sea species that are in danger of disappearing, like noble pen shell Pinna Nobilis and Molluscs Patella ferruginea.
La Maddalena National park is a sailing paradise with 180 kilometers long coastline. It needs an experienced skipper to navigate since the winds can get quite strong during the high season. If you wish to avoid large boat concentration try to avoid first half of August.
Day 4. La Maddalena – Bonifacio
If the weather permits, do not miss a chance to sail to French water and visit splendid Bonifacio, a city at the south peak of Corsica island. Sailing on a boat along the coast of the town gives you a spectacular view at 70 meters high limestone cliffs and the city’s fortress.
Day 5. Bonifacio – Caprera Island
Some tourists call the archipelago of La Maddalena the European Caribbean. Therefore, when you see the beautiful beaches and natural scenery that the island of Caprera offers, you would certainly agree. The island of Caprera was once the home of the Italian unifier Giuseppe Garibaldi where he lived the last 25 years of his life. This is a small village known for its great hospitality.
Day 6. Caprera Island – Porto Rotondo
Small village of Porto Rotondo is a well-known jet-set destination and with Porto Cervo is considered the most luxurious location in Sardinia. In addition to numerous villas, luxurious hotels and private accommodation, it has a very well equipped port with 800 berths.
The village was built by Venetian patricians Luigi and Nicolò Donà dalle Rose as their „getaway“ destination. Nowadays, it has approximately 1,000 inhabitants, but because of the high popularity during the summer, the population goes up to 30,000.
Day 7. Porto Rotondo – Olbia
After visiting many remote areas and small villages do not miss the chance to feel the rhythm of the town of Olbia.
